When a 39-year-old literature professor and mother of two young children travels alone to Patagonia in search of the answers that will allow her to write the book that will give meaning to her life, she becomes trapped by an enigmatic family who forces her to cross the threshold of the known. After surviving the ordeal, she discovers that the book she had longed to write would preserve the memory of a world that needed her voice.
